12.11.2016
Our first Russian Language Club took place in Grand Canal Hotel in Dublin yesterday. Students from Kalinka Language School and Ballsbridge College gathered together the first time. In a friendly and cheerful atmosphere we got to know each other. Students found out more about the greatest Russian poet A.Pushkin, beautifully recited his lyrical poems in Russian, enjoyed a cup of tea, laughed and discussed future Club plans. We are really grateful to the Russian ambassador and the Russian Embassy in Ireland for financial support of this event.

The Russian class at Ballsbridge College, September 2016
The new school year began for my new students at Ballsbridge College. I am so glad that so many people want to study the Russian Language this year again and this is in Ireland, in a country, which is so far from Russia. This is really nice!
Today I asked my students if they know how many people in the world speak the Russian language? When I revealed a figure of 290ml, they were surprised. They always smile especially when I tell them that the population of Russia is 146 ml, and when I add that it’s not a lot, they start laughing. For European countries that’s a lot! Then I explain that for such a huge country as Russia 146ml is not a lot at all.
Then I ask my students if they know how many people in Ireland are studying the Russian language? They laugh again. They say: 14, after counting how many people are in the room. I tell them about other Schools and Trinity College. They understood. I don’t know all of my new students yet but I know there is an archeologist among them, who is going to go to Siberia for excavations, there is a university teacher, who is going to teach at Moscow university… So, the school year has started! Let’s get to work! 🙂
